Classic Canadian Rockies Tour by Rail & Road

Enjoy splendid scenery in the most comfortable way - by the Rocky Mountaineer and comfortable full size motorcoach. After a full day to explore the Metropolitan city of Vancouver you travel eastbound to Calgary by train. On this 2 day journey between Vancouver and Calgary you will trace the historic trans-continental rail line. Your journey continues northbound on the Icefields Parkway to Banff and Jasper. Enroute you will visit Columbia Icefield and have plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife. After a full day at leisure in the mountain town of Jasper you will board again the Rocky Mountaineer and travel westbound back to Vancouver.

 

 

Itinerary:  

Day 1: Vancouver arrival:
Transfer from the Vancouver Airport to your hotel in Vancouver downtown by limo transfer. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in downtown Vancouver.

Day 2: Day in Vancouver:
Today enjoy a 4-hour guided sightseeing tour of Vancouver.
You will see Canada Place, Robson Street, Public Library, QE Theatre and GM Place, Chinatown and Gastown. Soak in the natural splendor of Stanley Park's Totem Poles and Prospect Point. Pass the West End high-rises and the beaches of English Bay on our way to vibrant Granville Island with its public market, shops, restaurants and galleries. Visit The Lookout to take the glass elevator to the 360° views (admission included). Rest of day explore Vancouver on your own.

Day 3: Vancouver to Kamloops:
Travel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Kamloops, in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. On today’s journey (depart at 8am, arrival at 5:35pm) you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser River valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade mountains, to the desert-like environment of the interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Your day concludes as the Rocky Mountaineer travels along the shores of Kamloops Lake and into Kamloops. Overnight in Kamloops.

Day 4: Kamloops to Calgary:
Continues eastwards on the Rocky Mountaineer to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. (Depart at 7am, arrive at 9:20pm). Once again you will see a spectacular array of scenery as you travel across ranchlands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form part of the rich rail history of the Canadian Rockies. Today’s highlights include Craigellachie, where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, the climb over Rogers Pass, the Kicking Horse Canyon, the Spiral Tunnels and, of course, the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. After a brief stop in Banff, hors d’oeuvres will be served as you continue on to the “Stampede City” of Calgary. Overnight in Calgary.

Day 5: Calgary to Banff:
Explore Calgary this morning. In the later afternoon you will board the motorcoach and travel to Banff. Overnight in Banff

Day 6: Banff to Jasper:
This morning you have time to explore Banff. Visit the Fairmont Hot Springs, take the gondola up to
Sulphur Mountain, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies (not included). You will have a 360o view from the upper gondola terminal, there are other viewing decks and the Summit Ridge interpretive boardwalk. In the afternoon (at approx. 2:30pm) depart in a comfortable full size motorcoach and start your travels along the Icefields Parkway (please note that the coach will make scheduled pick up and drop off stops along the route). Overnight in Jasper.

Day 7: Jasper:
Today is at your leisure to explore Jasper and Jasper National Park. Optional excursions are offered such as guided hikes and glacier hikes, Miette Hot Springs and wildlife tour and river rafting tours. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 8: Jasper to Kamloops:
Your journey continues onboard the Rocky Mountaineer from Jasper in the Canadian Rockies to Kamloops. As you journey west and south you will be surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Continental Divide and by the river valleys of the Monashee and Cariboo mountains. Today’s highlights include Mount Robson, Pyramid Falls, the climb over Yellowhead Pass and the journey along the North Thompson River as you approach Kamloops. Overnight in Kamloops.

Day 9: Kamloops to Vancouver:
On today’s journey you will again see dramatic changes in scenery, from the desert-like environment of the interior, through winding river canyons and pristine forests, to the Coast and Cascade mountains and the lush green fields of the Fraser River Valley. Highlights include the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River and the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon. Your journey ends on arrival in Vancouver this evening. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 10: Vancouver departure:
Transfer to the airport on own for your departure or start additional program

9 night accommodation in moderate class hotels, journey on the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Calgary via Kamloops and from Jasper to Vancouver via Kamloops in RedLeaf Service, scheduled motorcoach transportation from Calgary to Banff and from Banff to Jasper, limo transfer from Vancouver Airport to downtown Vancouver hotel upon arrival, 4-hour guided sightseeing tour of Vancouver, provincial accommodation and sales taxes.
