The
southern slopes of the Brooks Range offer good rafting potential,
with relatively easy logistics, fine rivers and beautiful scenery.
Using Fairbanks as the gateway for your expeditions, we arrange
a schedule or charter flight to Bettles. Here you can be outfitted
with rafts, canoes and depending on what additional equipment you
need, everything from gas stove to bear proof food containers can
be provided. Once your expedition is equipped, a bush plane takes
you and the equipment to the starting point of the float.
John River (class I & II water)
The three day float begins at the headwaters of the John River
in the Gates of the Arctic National Park. The upper section of
the John offers spectacular scenery and good wildlife viewing
opportunities. The float trip ends at the Arctic homestead of
Crevice Creek, here you are picked up by a bush plane and return
by air to Bettles. We can arrange an additional overnight at historic
Bettles Lodge before you fly south to Fairbanks. Fishing for Arctic
Grayling and Northern Pike.
