Tour 103

One of the most unique bear viewing experiences ever! Think of actually being able to live safely in close proximity to grizzly bears and spending entire days viewing the magnificent animals. The Katmai Coast offers Alaska's richest habitat for bears and attracts naturalists and animal lovers each summer.   Katmai Wilderness Lodge sits on a ridge adjacent to a long beach and is the only private establishment in this area. The lodge is located within the boundary of the Katmai National Park in an area designated as "wilderness", providing unique wildlife observation and seclusion. Surrounding the lodge buildings are low hills covered with wildflowers, low brush and shrubs- here you are in the midst of the great Alaska brown bear. Multilevel viewing decks provide comfortable viewing of the bay and surrounding wilderness. At any time you may see a bear in the vicinity of the lodge.

Three nights

Day 1:  Transfer on own to the Anchorage International Airport where you will depart for Kodiak Island. On arrival in Kodiak you will be transferred to a waiting seaplane that will whisk you off to the Katmai Coast and Katmai Wilderness Lodge. Spend the next days viewing and photographing the largest grizzlies in the world! Overnight Katmai Wilderness Lodge.

Days 2+  Full day(s) of guided activities from the lodge. Choices include guided bear viewing, photography, bird watching, guided hiking, guided sea kayaking, beach combing, or perhaps a visit to view the archaeological sites. A licensed captain will guide you to the best spots in Kukak and the surrounding bays, depending on the time of day and tides. The touring vessel named the Wilderness was specially designed for the Katmai Wilderness Lodge - to get close to the remote beaches. A custom front ramp makes it easy to get on and off whether you're headed for a hike or back to the lodge. Due to strong tidal fluctuations in the areas, the low tide exposes mudflats that provide a unique opportunity for clam digging and beach combing. Fishing for halibut and rock bass is also possible. Overnight Katmai Wilderness Lodge.

Last Day
A seaplane returns to the lodge this morning and takes you back to Kodiak in time to meet a scheduled flight to Anchorage. Tour ends on arrival in Anchorage.

Round trip flights from Anchorage to Kodiak and seaplane transfers to the Katmai coast. Accommodation and all meals at the lodge. Services of guides at Katmai Wilderness Lodge for bearviewing, birding or  fishing.

Due to limited availability and short operating season, lost days due to weather, or any other reason beyond the lodge's control that delays or prevents clients getting to the lodge on the day scheduled are non-refundable.
