From Wrangell
Tour 111

The AnAn Observatory is located 35 miles southeast of Wrangell on the mainland's Cleveland Peninsula about 34 miles southeast of Wrangell. Each summer thousands of spawning salmon attract Brown Bears, Black Bears, Bald Eagles, and seals that feed in the lagoon. These spawning migrations are partially blocked by a waterfall about 1/2 mile from saltwater. Black bears and some brown bears are attracted to these large numbers of fish migrating up this stream. The observatory is an open log style wood shelter with two entryways and viewing ports that overlook the creek and falls. A two level wooden deck provides additional room for viewing opportunities. An outdoor privy is available nearby.

One Day Tour (from Wrangell)

Day 1

45-minute jet boat ride will bring you from Wrangell through the Eastern Passage to Anan Creek. Seals, Stellar Sea Lions, dolphins and occasional Orca feed on herring and smelt found along our route. The multi-level observatory platform provides excellent opportunities for viewing black and brown bears fishing 30 feet below or approximately 150 feet across river. Time spent at the platform is determined by the guide based on local conditions. Tour duration 6 hours.
