Zachar Bay located in the heart of Kodiak Island Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife viewing and fishing are both excellent so depending on your primary interests, you may choose from a variety of daily outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and sightseeing. Expert guides are on hand for all the outdoor activities. You can access remote beaches and wilderness areas by powerful boats and seaplane. Accommodation is in comfortable private rooms and the lodge has a congenial family style dining and lounge area. Guests will find the combination of Zachar Bay's ambiance and choice of daily activities a rewarding experience. This family owned lodge is typical of the remarkable talents found in Alaska.

Five days/four nights

Day 01: Depart from Anchorage airport this morning on a scheduled flight to Kodiak. The hotel is located close to the airport. Kodiak is steeped in history and the sightseeing tour this afternoon includes the Baranof Museum and all major features of the city. Overnight at the Buskin River Inn.

Day 02: Kodiak to Zachar Bay Nature Lodge. From the seaplane dock you make a short 40 minute flight to the lodge. Your hosts will greet you on arrival and provide an introduction to all the scheduled activities. This afternoon, cruise the rugged coast to nearby bird rookeries and search for wildlife, or set off for an afternoon of fishing. Activities are flexible and planned around your particular interests. Overnight at Zachar Bay Lodge.

 

Day 03- 04: The style of the lodge is flexible and you are encouraged to 'plan your own day'. With the assistance of the guides they will help tailor your activities to ensure you get the very best from your visit. Weather plays an important part of life here and schedules are flexible to work around the natural elements. You will have one fly-out adventure to select from including bear viewing flights to Frazer Lake or a remote fishing stream on Kodiak Island. Watch brown bears fish for salmon near a waterfall and during the season mothers may be spotted with their cubs. Fishing is excellent and with an expert guide you can catch a variety of species in both fresh and salt water. At Zachar Bay you will feel the peace and quiet of nature all around you! 

Day 05: Return today from Kodiak to Anchorage; after breakfast depart by seaplane Kodiak airport and connect with scheduled flight to Anchorage, arriving mid afternoon. End of tour.

Round Trip air from Anchorage to Kodiak and scenic float plane flight to lodge from Kodiak. Overnight Accommodation in Kodiak. Guided sightseeing tour in Kodiak. Private room with two single beds and private bath at Zachar bay Lodge. Three hearty meals daily: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Day trips fully guided, including 1 fly-out adventure. Cleaning, packaging vacuum sealing, freezing of fish and waxed boxes for travel. Use of boots, rain jackets and pants, spin fishing rods and reels, halibut fishing tackle and bait.

Not Included: Gratuities, alcoholic beverages, and fishing licenses and king salmon stamps. 


Bring good rain gear and warm clothes. Fishing for salmon and halibut is optional and license is not included. The lodge provides fishing equipment, packaging and cleaning of your catch. Flight schedules subject to weather.
