Tour 1508

This 14-night itinerary is designed to give you a link between Anchorage (Alaska's major air gateway) and the northern Inside Passage, including Skagway, Juneau and Glacier Bay. The ' one-way self drive gets you off the busy tourist routes and into the real backcountry of Alaska and Canada's Yukon Territory. The itinerary allows you to depart any day in the summer and also allows you to add extension tours; also available in reverse direction.  This tour combines Denali National Park, Alaska Scenic Byways, Yukon highlights, and the whales of Glacier Bay. Click here to view a map of the driving route.

Day 02:  Anchorage to Denali; drive the Parks Highway north, enjoy a possible stop to Talkeetna along the way. Overnight Denali.

Day 04:  Denali to Fairbanks; driving route through the historic railroad town of Nenana. Overnight Fairbanks.

Day 05:  Fairbanks; free day to explore the Fairbanks area.  A great opportunity for optional excursions such as a sternwheeler cruise or excursion into the Arctic.  Overnight Fairbanks.

Day 06: Fairbanks to Tok; travel south on the Alaska Highway and enjoy great scenic views of Alaska Range. Overnight Tok.

Day 07: Tok to Dawson City; travel the Top of the World Highway to Dawson City, Yukon, Canada. Overnight Dawson City.

Day 08:  Dawson City; spend the day exploring the exciting Klondike. Yukon River boat trips, theatre, gambling casino all await you. Overnight Dawson City.

Day 09:  Dawson to Whitehorse; drive through the central Yukon interior and follow the Yukon River to Yukon's capital. Overnight Whitehorse.

Day 10:  Whitehorse to Skagway; drive over famous White Pass Summit. Spend the day exploring the historic gold rush town of Skagway. This evening drop off your rental vehicle.  Overnight Skagway.

Day 11:  Skagway to Gustavus;  Continue your journey today with a scenic flight to Gustavus, gateway to Glacier Bay National Park.  In the afternoon embark on a spectacular whale watching cruise into Icy Strait.  Overnight Glacier Bay Lodge.

Day 12:   Glacier Bay National Park;  You will spend today cruising through Glacier Bay National Park.  The high speed catamaran departs early this morning from the lodge.  Lunch is included and National Park Rangers provide a highly informative program. Overnight Glacier Bay Lodge.

Day 13:  Juneau; this a transfer is provided to the Gustavus airport to meet a scheduled flight to Juneau.  On arrival, transfer on your own to your hotel.  Spend the day exploring the Juneau area.  Overnight Juneau.

Day 14: Anchorage; Some free time this morning in Juneau for more sightseeing and the chance for optional excursions.  Transfer on your own to the airport in time to meet a scheduled flight to Anchorage.  Overnight Anchorage.

Day 15:  Departure; A hotel courtesy transfer is available from your hotel in Anchorage for departure.

This tour may be modified to include the Alaska Ferry from Juneau to Prince Rupert or Bellingham, Washington, or airfare from Juneau to Seattle instead of the return to Anchorage. This itinerary also works in reverse driving from Skagway to Anchorage (or Fairbanks).   NOTE:  This tour can also operate round-trip from Juneau.
